Mavericks are set loose at Extreme Camp '08
Nine Mavericks attended Extreme Camp '08 this season from August 8-10. It was the longest 3 days I think I have ever experienced coaching wise. These kids loaded up at 5:45AM and headed to camp on Friday morning. Once there, they started at 8AM and didn't stop until 10:30PM and getting to sleep about 1AM. On Saturday morning, they were up at 6AM and didn't stop until 10:30PM and again getting to sleep about 12:45AM. Sunday they were up by 6:30AM and were handed back to their parents at 5PM in a complete daze of exhaustion!
You may ask...was it worth it? Well as a coach, I would have to say yes. The kids learned a lot of skills and dance moves at camp. They had a great time dressing up for Wacky Wear Night and did great in the Talent Night with a hip hop dance that was choreographed by the Senior Captains and taught to the rest in about a 5 hour period the Wednesday before. When first asked, the kids said that they never wanted to do that again (too exhausting)...but now they are starting to come around and say, "Yeah, I'd do it again!"
I do want to say THANK YOU to Mrs. Diane for going along as a chaperone and driver. (I will admit...we were wondering for a little bit on weather or not we would do it again...we got less sleep than the kids did!
Most of the girls earned several individual awards this year. Last year, we were mostly in the beginner classes, this year we bumped to the intermediate and advanced classes so we have gotten better over the past year. The girls earned "MOST IMPROVED AWARD", and "MOST ENTHUSIASTIC". They also earned, "BEST NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK" award for the talent night. I wanted to send a SHOUT OUT to Kourtney for being a SUPER MAVERICKS at camp. Jen Jen needed to sit out for a few classes because her knee was bothering her which was also preventing her from performing at her best. She was the only girl on the squad because of her knee, earn a medel at camp. Kourtney gave her one of the 3 she earned. That was a super nice thing to do and showed team spirit.
GREAT JOB GIRLS...MAYBE NEXT YEAR WE CAN GET MORE KIDS TO GO AND HAVE A LARGER GROUP!
