New Castle 16 Canal 6 CLL dropped it's first 8 yr old all star game to New Castle 16-6. Starting pitcher Ryan McBride allowed only 4 runs in two innings and went 1 for 2 at the plate. Canal kept it close for 3 and a half innings with runs scored by Matt Hoffman, Sameer German, Aiden Gray, Drew Brady and Luke Corrozi. New Castle put up 6 in the final frame to close out the game. Canal 14 Midway 10 The Canal 8s showed their toughness after falling behind 8-3, by plating 11 runs in the fifth inning to ultimately secure their first win against Midway, 14-10 in 6 innings. Strong pitching by Ryan McBride, Justin Tranum, Aiden Gray and Cameron Coco combined for the win. The hot bats came in bunches w Matt Hoffman, Sameer German and Aiden Gray all scoring twice while Drew Brady, Alex Machenheimer, JT Wingo and John Klepacki all had multiple RBI games. Canal 13, Newark American 2
Unbelievable. After losing their first game to New Castle, the 8s have battled through the losers bracket to emerge with a 3-1 record and play Newark National in the District 2 South final on Tuesday night. The 8s dug a hole early in the game giving up 7 runs in the first inning, and another 6 in the second. But these kids have grit. With their backs against the wall, they remembered how to play defense and began hitting and running the bases with precision. The defense shut down possible big innings late in the game with Alex Machenheimer throwing out a NC player on an attempted steal with a great run down by JT Wingo and Luke Corrozi. Ryan McBride, Sameer German and JT Wingo made momentum changing plays, robbing balls out of the air in the final two innings for pitcher Cameron Coco. Canal's comeback was not to be denied, with the boys scoring 11 runs in the final 3 innings. Mercifully, after more than 3 1/2 hours, Drew Brady showed discipline at the plate and worked a walk with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 6th, to plate the final run of the 18-17 contest.
