Game Recap: Playoff Game 2 between Invaders and Grind: July 27, 2021

Grind baseball faced off again with the Invaders Tuesday at Oceanside high school. Danny Sandoval (Grind) and Yuto Mimura (Invaders) each got the start on the mound. Sandoval gave up 13 hits to the Invaders and 6 total runs. Minjae Yeo, Moon Eom, Youhyeon Choi, and Minsung Cho, all had RBI base hits. After the sixth inning the Invaders however were unable to score again off Grind relievers; Robert Carrillo, Ismael Jimenez, and Christian Basura. The Grind had a huge seventh inning, scoring seven runs off of 6 hits and two sac flies. The big hit that inning was a two RBI homerun by Jake Borst. The game would end with a final score: Grind 9, Invaders 6. Grind baseball moves on to face the San Diego Force in the PSL championship series. The Invaders end their PSL season with a league record of 8 – 14.

Playoff game #1: Invaders v. Grind July 26, 2020

The Invaders took on the Grind at Oceanside High School to kick off the 2021 playoffs. Starting pitchers Austin Correia (Grind) and Joowon Jeon (Invaders) were dominant. The Invaders would get on the board first when Moon Eom scored on a RBI double by Minsung Cho in the second inning. The Grind then scored one of their own in the fourth inning off an RBI single by Jr. Hinojosa. The score would go into the ninth inning 6-5 Grind. In the ninth inning the Grind added five to their score of those three runs came from a double by Gavin Mestas. Santiago Gomez would come in for the Grind to pitch the end of the eighth inning and the ninth. The final score was Grind 11, Invaders 5. The Invaders look to bounce back tomorrow (7/27/2021) and hopefully force a deciding game 3.

Invaders @ Roughriders July 20, 2021

The Invaders grinded out a win vs the Roughriders at Lincoln High School today 7/20/21. The final was 8-5 and it felt hard fought all the way through. The Invaders took advantage in the base paths to manufacture some runs including one where a pop fly dropped between three Roughriders and an Invader player made it from 2nd to 3rd, then stole home while the Roughriders had a lapse and didn’t get the ball to the infield in a quick manner. A standout player was Invaders SP Joowon Jeon who toughed out 8 innings. After 3 perfect innings he fought his way out of a few jams allowing just 4 hits with 10 k’s and 3 walks. He did allow 5 runs but only 3 were earned as his defense was sometimes befuddled behind him.

Invaders @ Highlanders - Soboba 7/15

Everything was working for the Invaders on Thursday night in Soboba during their 15-0 defeat of the Highlanders, except for the field’s sprinklers schedule. SP Joowon Jeon was dominant, throwing a complete game 8 1/3 with 19 strikeouts, no hits, no runs, allowing only 3 base runners via an error and 2 walks. The game was called due to on-field sprinklers, which were unable to be shut off.
Offensively, the Invaders were led by standout Nate Jakobs who contributed 3 hits, including a double and walk, a stolen base, and 3 runs scored.

Invaders v. Grind July 10, 2020

Grind baseball traveled to Oceanside to take on the Invaders. The Invaders got off to an early lead. In the third inning Nate Jakobs hit a three RBI triple. In the fifth inning Nate Jakobs would score another one for the Invaders with a homerun to right center field. The Grind made it very close though at the end of the game when Gavin Mestas and Derek Balancier scored. However the Invaders would hold on to win. Final score was Invaders 4, Grind 3. Winning pitcher for the Invaders was Yuto Mimura. The Invaders now have a 5-8 record in PSL play and the Grind is 5-2.

Invaders v. Prospect Powerhouse July 8, 2021

Prospect Powerhouse took on the Invaders at Oceanside High School on Thursday July, 8, 2021. The Invaders got on the board right away in the first inning when Stephen Chavez scored on an sac fly by Nate Jakobs. They would never gave up the lead after the first inning. The standout for the Invaders was their pitcher Joowon Jeon. He would throw a complete game shut out, the only blemish was giving up one hit to Nathan Huyler in the second inning. The final score would be Invaders 6, Prospect Powerhouse 0. The Invaders are now 4-9 in league play and Prospect Powerhouse is now 3-3 in PSL play.

Invaders vs. Force July 1 , 2021

The San Diego Force were a force to be reckoned with in their dominant win over the San Diego Invaders on the first day of July. They won 15-6 after going up 2-0 early they fell behind 3-2 in the second and then answered with 6 runs in the 3rd inning. Adam Gacek was a nice bright spot for the force after the starter only went 1 inning he pitched 5 and 2/3 in relief with 6 k’s only 2 walks, 3 hits, 2 runs, but only one was earned. Jeonwon Jeong was one of the few bright spots for the Invaders with 2 runs a stolen base and a double in two at-bats. Medux was maybe the best player on the day for the force going 4 for 5 with 3 runs, four stolen bases, 2 singles, and an rbi.

Game Recap: Invaders v. Highlanders June 27, 2021

The Invaders took on the Highlanders for the first time in league play Sunday at Oceanside High School. The Highlanders were the first to score in the top of the second inning off of a RBI single by Ingrid. However, the Invaders would answer in the bottom of the third inning off of Kohei Yamada’s two run homerun. The Invaders would score again in the bottom of the sixth with another two run homerun by Nate Jakobs. The Invaders would tack onto their lead in the seventh scoring three runs, two off of an error by the third baseman and one from an RBI single by Jakobs. Invaders pitching was very solid also despite giving up two in the top of the eighth inning when the Highlanders scored on a passed ball and an RBI single by Shane Schick. The game would end with a final score of Invaders 7, Highlanders 3. This is the second win for the Invaders and the first lose for Highlanders in the PSL.

Invaders vs. Roughriders Game Recap June 23, 2021

The Roughriders took on the Invaders as the road team and not a lot went right for them. The Invaders won their first game of the season in a dominant fashion winning 14-4. Joowon Jeon pitched for the Invaders going 5 strong innings allowing just 1 unearned run and striking out 8 Rough riders and he was a real stand out in the game. Another standout moment was Moonhyeon Eom’s no doubt Grand Slam. One bright spot for the Rough riders was Derek Lopez tossing two strong innings in relief allowing no hits and striking out 3.

Game Recap: Invaders vs. Force June 16, 2021

The SD Invaders took on the SD Force at Oceanside high school on June 16, 2021. Starting pitchers were Joowon Jeon for the Invaders and Ethan Paulson for the Force. The Invaders took an early lead when Kohei Yamada and Yuto Mimura scored in the first inning. The game would go into the fifth inning with a score of 4-2 Invaders. The Force had a huge inning in the top of the fifth capitalizing on a few walks. The highlight of the fifth was Michael Davinni’s grand slam. The Force would score 9 runs that inning. There was a strong late-game effort by the Invaders with two home runs. One in the bottom of the fifth by Oliver Sellman and another by Nate Jakobs in the seventh inning. The Force would go on to win this one with a final score of 16 to 6. The Force remains undefeated in league play.

San Diego Invaders versus Grind Baseball June 10, 2021

The Invaders hosted Grind baseball at Wells Park on June 10, 2021, for some day baseball. Grind baseball got out to an early lead in the top of the first by capitalizing on walks from the starting Invaders pitching giving them an early 5-0 lead. They got one more run in the third inning off of a bases-loaded walk. Making it 6-0. The Invaders were able to get two back in the bottom of the third off of walks from the Grind pitcher making the score 6-2. The Grind was able to add to their lead in the fifth by scoring three more. The Invaders battled back in the seventh and eighth innings getting 5 runs. The Grind answered in the top of the ninth getting two back. Going into the bottom of the ninth inning the score was 11-7 and it stood that way. Final score: Grind baseball 11 SD Invaders 7.

San Diego Invaders v. San Diego Force June 5, 2021

The San Diego Force kicked off their summer 2021 season versus the San Diego Invaders at West Hills High School on June 5, 2021. The game was very much back and forth between the teams. The Force started off strong scoring two in the first inning but the Invaders followed with one of their own in the second. The Invaders then took the lead by putting up a four-spot in the fourth. The Force then got one back making the score 5-3. The Force was able to regain the lead in the sixth inning making it 8-5. The Invaders were able to get one back making it 8-6. However, the Force set themselves up for the win by scoring two more in the eighth. The Force held on to win with a final score of 10-6. Great start to the season for both teams!
