Warren Lincoln Wrestling Club (aka WLWC), formally known as Van Dyke Wrestling Club, was founded in 1970 for school age children from grades K-12. WLWC became a subsidiary of Beat the Streets Detroit in 2013. Our target demographic is boys and girls from the Southeast Warren, however we are not solely limited to this area. Our goal is to use wrestling as a gateway to teach young people life skills and character traits such as perseverance, mental fortitude, fitness, discipline, citizenship and humility.
We offer the following at no cost for any current student who attends Van Dyke Public Schools that meets the WLWC Code of Conduct.
-
Tutoring
-
We offer tutoring for K-12 from the hours of 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tues, Weds and Thurs, starting the 17th of November to the 28th of April for anyone student that is involved in the wrestling program. We have acquired the services of a Certified Teacher with the state of MI.
-
Uniforms
-
Each student will be given a uniform consisting of practice shorts and shirt, singlet and head gear. Singlet and headgear shall be returned at the end of the competition season.
-
Tournament Competition
-
Local - We compete in two leagues Michigan Youth Wrestling Association for Folkstyle and Michigan USA Wrestling for Freestyle.
-
State - There are 3 statewide tournaments we compete in every year Spartan County and MYWAY State and MUSAW States
-
National - We only take 1 national trip as a group to either to Folkstyle Nationals in IA or Flonationals in PA
-
Nutrition
-
Many of the kids in Southeast Warren do not get the proper amount of Nutrition in their daily diets. We plan on send a bag of quick healthy snacks and a few meals home with every kid that they can prepare on their own once a week.
-
We have in the past asked for parents to send lunch of five dollars on the day of tournaments so their child would have something to eat. Unfortunately too often kids were sent with nothing. We would also like to provide food for the kids at the tournament like pasta salad, spaghetti, or tacos that we would have one or two of the parents prepare, but BTSD/WLWC cover the cost.
