The Indianapolis Star reported in today’s edition that Austin Lady Eagles basketball player and recent State Champion Katy McIntosh, has been voted to the 2010 Indiana Girls Basketball All-Star Team, which will compete in the annual two-game mini series with Kentucky in June. Katy is the first Lady Eagles player to be honored on the team since Jodie Whitaker and Tina Reece were voted to the squad in 1985. She is the 4th overall Lady Eagles player as Lisa Goodin was elected to the team in 1980.
Katy and the Lady Eagles won the Indiana Class 2A State Championship earlier this month by defeating Fort Wayne Luers 70-65 in overtime. The victory was the first team sport state championship for Austin, in the history of the school. In the 1993-94 school year, Jonathan White was the Boys Indiana State Cross Country Champion.
At Austin, Katy is the Lady Eagles all-time leading scorer with 2,195 career points, which is the 14th highest mark in the history of Indiana girls basketball. She is also Austin’s all-time leader in assists, and in career free throws made not only is she Austin’s all-time leader, but she is also Indiana’s all-time leader.
Katy who will attend the University of Indianapolis next fall on a basketball scholarship won the Indiana Mental Attitude Award at the state finals. During her four years as a starting guard for the Lady Eagles the team won 86 games while losing only 19. Along with this season’s state championship the Lady Eagles won one Semi-State, three Regionals and Sectionals and two Mid Southern Conference Championships.
During the Indiana-Kentucky all star games Katy will wear number six. The games will be played at Bellarmine University in Louisville on June 11th and at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on June 12th.
