- Coach Martinez had the brilliant idea of starting an adult baseball team and along with his good friend Miguel Marti, he created the Falls Church Pirates in 2004. The Barons changed their name to the Red Barons in '05 and eventually dropped the Red to become the Falls Church Barons in 2006. Coach played baseball for JEB Stuart High School with Miguel Marti and after High-School traveled to Mexico to try his hand in the Mexican Independent league. Coach played an entire summer season with the Iztapalapa Rojos in 1998 but returned home to NOVA after the season to pursue his college degree at George Mason University. Coach Martinez is the second Operation Iraqi Freedom on the Barons (Brian Zaborowksi being the first) serving from 2004 - 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq. After several nagging injuries including an Achilles tendon injury coach was looking to get back on the field but has suffered another setback with a fractured finger on his throwing hand. No worries though, the Barons will do just fine without him on the field. Coach Martinez is also the Assistant JV Coach at West Potomac High School.
