1) Secures and Cushions the Lower Jaw
Repositions and secures the jaw, creating a safety space at the base of brain and TMJ. Preventing the lower jaw from slamming the base of the skull and TMJ area. This with a shock absorbent inner core reduces the risk of injury to the Brain and TMJ.
What are "Chin Strap Loaded Forces"?
The TMJ and Jaw-Joint Complex house the major nerve groups and blood supply to the brain. Because the helmet is secured in place by the chin strap this creates constant pressure in this sensitive area. Even without taking a hit players often complain of headaches as a result of this pressure. The temporal lobe of the brain is separated from the condoyle or end of the jaw bone by one of the thinnest bones in the body. Protecting and preventing impact forces to this area is of vital importance.
Protection From Chin Strap Loaded Force
In order to prevent these forces from reaching the TMJ and Base of the Skull, the jaw must be stabilized in a down and forward position. A Dual Arch Mouth Guard that brings the lower jaw slightly forward with a minimum of 6mm thickness in the molar area will create a Safety Space at the TMJ and Base of the Skull. This is the Basic Technology behind all Brain-Pad Mouth Guards.
