Scarborough Stingers Gone From Elite Bantam Loop

Thursday October 14th, 2021

In an ATL exclusive it has been learned through reliable sources that the Scarborough Stingers have been disbanded from the Elite Bantam Loop.  A dramatic turn of events as the Stingers have been a fixture having been one of the premier teams in the loop for the past two seasons.

Reports indicate that the Stingers had a low turnout for tryouts and the Stingers organization was unable to supplement the team.  The impact of this development will be seen in a number of ways.  First, how many teams will be competing in the TBA?  Established teams Etobicoke Rangers and North York Blues will be back.  The Leaside Leafs have disclosed that they will returning to the elite loop for 2022.  Meanwhile, defending TBA Champions in 2021 the West Toronto Wildcats will return with essentially the same roster.  North Toronto has added a number of new players (some from Scarborough) making for a strong team that will be trying to knock off the Wildcats in 2022 from their perch atop the TBA.  Sources indicate that many players have been scattered throughout the TBA and EOBA as a result of the loss of the Stingers.  This had lead to speculation that the East York Bulldogs will become an elite team.

Reports also indicate that other players are headed to teams outside the OBA making the depth of competition throughout the loop that much more diluted going into arguably the most exciting OBA season.  With the likes of Eliminations tournament, OBA Championships and possibly the Summer Games on tap in 2022.

Bottom line is that the loss of Scarborough tips the balance of the TBA league into a two team race from last season.  It is hard to establish a team at the Elite level without a foundation in the seasons past, making it even more difficult for the likes for new organizations stepping into the elite level..  The landscape for the TBA for 2022 has certainly changed dramatically but things remain certainly unpredictable..

In other news and notes reports indicate that teams in Canada have become far more optimistic as to the prospect of a tradition 2022 season with as many as 4 teams already booking US trips to the same tournament ... It is expected that the season will start in 2022 at the traditional May 1st start date ... The loss of gym permits currently has seen teams scramble to find alternate indoor workout facilities ...
