POOL PLAY GAME 1
FW REBELS 12 DIRTBAGS SEDBERRY 1
Drew Horstman's RBI triple broke the game wide open in the 3rd inning.
Coleman Peck & Brady Franz are the two newest members of the FW Rebels organization and they were the first two pitchers to take the hill. Neither disappointed as Peck tossed two shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out three, Franz tossed two innings of relief and allowed an unearned run on no hits and he struck out two. Peck was the winning pitcher while Franz was rewarded the save as the score was 1-0 when he entered the game.
At the plate, Karson Symonds went 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI while Jon Doko went 2-2 with a double and two RBI. Coleman Peck scored three runs from the lead-off spot. Drew Horstman boomed an RBI triple in the third to cap a five-run inning to put the game out of reach.
POOL PLAY GAME 2
FW REBELS 3 PTC ACES CUMMINGS 2
Evan Smith's walk-off RBI single scored Christopher Calabrese to lead the Rebels over PTC Aces 3-2
Over the course of FW Rebels' history, there have been quite a few walk-off hits. Add another to the books as Evan Smith singled home Christopher Calabrese in the bottom of the fifth inning to down the Aces 3-2. This was a pitching duel the entire way.
Quentin Enos got the start on the hill for the Rebels and didn't allow a run in his two innings of work.
The Rebels took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to an error by the Aces third baseman. Enos led off the inning with a single. Brady Franz & Karson Symonds both grounded into a fielders choice leaving Symonds on first with two down. After Drew Horstman walked, Jon Doko chopped a grounder to third that was thrown away enabling Symonds to score from second.
Evan Smith came in to pitch in relief and allowed a run in the top of the third to make it 1-1. The Rebels answered right back. Coleman Peck led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Jackson Jordan. With one down, Quintin Enos lined a bullet to right and the Aces right fielder made a sensational diving catch but Peck was able to tag up and score to make it 2-1. In the top of the 4th, the Aces tied the game up on a steal of third and an error. Jackson Jordan came into pitch and with the bases loaded and two outs, he got the Aces 2-hole hitter to pop out to thirdbaseman Brady Franz to end the threat. Jordan quickly retired two hitters in the top of the fifth and then allowed a single. That runner was gunned down by catcher Quentin Enos attempting to steal second.
That set up Smith's fifth inning heroics. Christopher Calabrese led off with a walk. Coleman Peck lined a bullet to right field and was thrown out at first but it moved Calabrese to second. Jackson Jordan singled then took second as the Aces were only worried about Calabrese at third. With the infield drawn in, Evan Smith grounded a single to left to win the game 3-2. The win earned the Rebels the #1 seed.
SEMIFINALS
FW REBELS 13 DBI BLACK SOX 3
Evan Swindell's two-out two-run single in the first gave the Rebels a 6-0 lead.
With the #1 seed, the Rebels were given a Sunday bye which placed them into the semifinals. DBI Black Sox who were 2-1 in the tournament were their opponent. Jack Dalton started on the hill for the Rebels and was dominant early. At the plate, the Rebels wasted little time. Coleman Peck & Jackson Jordan both singled to start the game. Karson Symonds singled and then Jack Dalton hit an RBI single to make it 4-0. The Black Sox then changed pitchers. After Brady Franz walked to load the bases, Evan Swindell hit a two-out two-run single to left to give the Rebels a commanding 6-0 lead.
Dalton breezed through a 1-2-3 second inning. The Rebel bats stayed hot. Peck once again led off with a single and stole second. With one down, Evan Smith crushed one down the left field line that landed about one foot fair for his second triple of the game to make it 7-0. Quentin Enos singled in Smith to make it 8-0. Jack Dalton singled in Enos and it was 9-0 Rebels.
The Black Sox got the first two hitters on in the third inning but Enos & Dalton teamed up to get the first out of the inning at the plate with the runner trying to score on a wild pitch. Dalton then got the next two hitters to ground out to second baseman Drew Horstman to end the threat.
The Rebels went on to win easily 13-3 and were on their way to the championship game. Dalton was the winning pitcher. Coleman Peck, Jackson Jordan, Evan Smith, Quentin Enos, & Jack Dalton all had multi-hit games while Smith, Enos, Dalton, & Evan Swindell all had multi RBI games.
CHAMPIONSHIP
FW REBELS 12 PTC ACES CUMMINGS 4
Amazing Sunday for Rebels slugger Evan Smith who crushed 4 (!!!!) triples in the two games.
The championship was a rematch of the great 3-2 thriller from just 24 hours earlier. Coleman Peck got the start on the hill for the Rebels and the Aces bats came out hot scoring two runs in the top of the first on three singles. As usual, the Rebels stormed right back. Peck led off with a single and moved to second on a Jackson Jordan ground out. Evan Smith then laced yet another triple to left center scoring Peck. Quentin Enos singled to right to tie the game at 2. With two outs, Jack Dalton tripled on a hard liner to left to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead.
Peck allowed a lead off single in the second inning but then started a nifty 1-6-3 double play with Jack Dalton & Karson Symonds. In the top of the third, the Aces had two outs and a runner on third. Peck's pitch eluded catcher Jon Doko who quickly pounced on the ball. The Aces runner who thought he could score then tried to scurry back to third. Doko threw to thirdbaseman Jackson Jordan who then threw to pitcher Coleman Peck and then to shortstop Jack Dalton who tagged the runner to end the inning.
With Quentin Enos on the mound, the Aces tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the fourth. The Rebels fought right back though. Jack Dalton singled to open the fourth. Drew Horstman hit a liner to right and Dalton was caught in no-man's land and was thrown out at second. Horstman then stole second. With two outs, Jon Doko singled in Horstman to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the fifth, with one out, the Aces leadoff hitter laced a triple down the left field line and scored on an RBI ground out to tie the game at 4. This time the Rebels answered in a big way in the bottom half of the 5th. Jackson Jordan led off with a double to right center. With one out, Quentin Enos singled sending Jordan to third. Karson Symonds singled to score Jordan to make it 5-4. Jack Dalton lined an RBI double to score Enos. Drew Horstman singled in Symonds and then Brady Franz doubled to deep left to make it 9-4 and the Aces then changed pitchers. Jon Doko capped off the scoring with an RBI double as well scoring Franz.
Brady Franz came in to pitch the sixth inning. He got the first hitter to ground out to short and then the next two batters reached on an error and a walk. That set up a beautiful big-league double play started by second baseman Coleman Peck and turned by shortstop Jack Dalton to end the inning.
The Rebels put the championship away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from Quentin Enos and an RBI single by Jack Dalton for a 12-4 victory.
