LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) -
Junior Trev Hadachek and Sophomore Jay Scheel have just helped Union High School to their first ever state championship. A combination of speed, size, and athleticisms helped Hadachek and Scheel to get there, but it was an injury that changed the course of the Knights season.

"I separated my shoulder and I didn't actually know it until after the game and I've been playing quarterback my whole life so I was kind of upset at first," athlete of the week Trev Hadachek said.

The Knights didn't miss a beat, rolling off 8 in a row to a 3A championship.

"Adversity happens, and Trev got down and I just stepped in." athlete of the week Jay Scheel said.

"They just flipped flop positions really on offense," head coach Joe Hadachek said. "Jay's been a quarterback since he's been a young guy too, and we knew he had talent and skills, and we were really making him the go to guy at wide receiver and with the injury to Trevs shoulder to be honest with you he stepped right in and played like a junior or senior."

Trev Hadachek is a first team all-state defensive back and racked up over 1,600 all purpose yards on the offensive side of the ball. Meanwhile Jay Scheel, coming in midseason at the quarterback position put up over 2,000 all-purpose yards.

What the future holds with two quarterbacks is anyone's guess

"No doubt you can put some special trick plays in if you got two guys that can throw. I don't think there is any offense with two quarterbacks in the backfield but we might have to look at it this summer," coach Hadachek said.

But for the two, three sport athletes, who work out together, motivate each other and inspire one another will hit the track and the hard wood before what hope to be another trip to the dome.
