REBELS FINALLY RETURN TO ACTION AND GO 1-1-1 IN TOURNAMENT

After a lenthy layoff, the FW Rebels returned for their first tournament of the 2020 13U season.  The results were a 7-7 tie, a 7-6 walkoff victory, and a 7-5 loss.  Here are the recaps of each game:

GAME 1

The Rebels allowed a run in the first inning with Evan Smith on the hill after Bobcats-White hit a double and triple with 2 down.  The Rebels answered right back as Karson Symonds 2-out 2-run single gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead.  Brady Franz came into pitch and was solid for 2 innings.  The Rebels exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Coleman Peck was hit by a pitch to open the inning.  Jack Dalton singled him to 2nd. Evan Smith reached on an error to fill the bases.  Quentin Enos singles in Peck & Dalton to take a 4-2 lead. Karson Symonds drive in another run to make it 5-2 and Drew Horstman knocked in a run as well reaching on an error.  TCR Bobcats white made an impressive comeback to tie it at 7.

 

 

GAME 2

Evan Smith blasts a ball to deep right giving the Rebels a come-from-behind 7-6 win over TCR Bobcats Hennig.  Smith was credited with an inside - the - park walkoff Home Run.

 

The Rebels fell behind early 4-0 but scored 4 of their own in the bottom of the 1st thanks to a sacrifice fly from Quentin Enos, and RBI single by Karson Symonds, and excellent baserunning from Evan Smith & Symonds.  After a hustling double by Enos in the 3rd, the Rebels took advantage of a Bobcat error to make it 5-4.  Bobcats Hennig scored a run in the 4th and 5th to take a 6-5 lead heading to the bottom of the final inning.  The Rebels never-say-die mentality was in full effect however when they came to the plate.  Charger Nguyen led off with a walk and Christopher Calabrese ran for him.  After Jack Dalton grounded out to send Calabrese to 3rd, Evan Smith stepped up to the plate.  Smith his a line drive just over the right fielder's head for a 2-run inside-the-park HR to give the Rebels a walkoff victory.

GAME 3

DALLAS TIGERS PEARSON  7

The Rebels didnt make things easy on themselves gifting Dallas Tigers 6 runs on 5 walks and 5 Rebel errors to open the first inning. They definitely could have folded right then and there bu that's not the FW Rebels way of doing things.  They are never counted out of a ballgame.  Down 7-1 heading to the final inning, Drew Horstman doubled to lead off the inning.  Jackson Jordan followed with an RBI single to center.  Brady Franz hit a bomb to center scoring Jordan for a double.  The next hitter, Charger Nguyen, singled on an 0-2 pitch to make it 7-4.  With Evan Swindell at the plate, The Rebels pulled off a double steal to score Franz to make it 7-4.  After Swindell grounded to short, Christopher Calabrese roped a single to center to score Nguyen to make it 7-5. The rally ended their however and the Rebels exited the 1st tournament of the year with the 7-5 defeat.
