The Schedules are Out!

Just four days into the New Year, the Tri-Point Football League has released its regular season schedule. The season will kick-off on June 4th and continue into July with 8 games. The league will be broken down into two divisions for the 2022 season. Division 1 (name subject to change) will be made up entirely from teams in Pennsylvania. Division 2 (name subject to change) will be made up of the teams from Ohio and our lone team from West Virginia.

Division 1

Greensburg Golden Hawks
Pittsburgh Saints
Pittsburgh Seminoles
Western Pennsylvania Rough Riders
Monogahela Valley Sabers
Steel Valley Truth

Division 2

Cleveland Cobras
Ohio Gladiators
Ohio Bears
Marietta Bulldogs
Columbus Bredren Knights
West Virginia Black Knights

There looks to be several great games spread throughout the schedule including an interesting theme in weeks three and four. Both weeks will be solely inter-divisional play. Week 3 will see all of the Division 2 teams hosting Division 1 from Pennsylvania. Conversely, the WV and Ohio teams of Division 2 will travel to Division 1 in week 4. The regular season will come to a close on July 30th.

One of the structural pillars of the Tri-Point Football League is that all of the 12 teams will be in the playoffs. Seeding for the bracket will be based off of the regular season records and follow typical seeding procedures. Every game from week one thru week 8 will count due to everyone having a pre-punched ticket to the post season. No one wants to start the first round against a team that may have risen as a powerhouse. So every regular season win will be huge.  The playoffs will begin on August 6th and crescendo with the Championship Game on August 27th.

A Quick Explanation of Preseason Games

Standard practice throughout this level of football is that teams typically are free to set up preseason games as they see fit. Preseason games can be scheduled anytime from late April thru the end of May. Teams may schedule opponents from other area leagues, which usually results in really good competition. Frequently you will see teams from the same league play each other in the preseason due to not having them on the schedule for the regular season or due to close proximity of their organizations. There is no standard amount of preseason games set by most leagues, but usually teams will play three or four.
