COACH PITCH
BASEBALL LEAGUE AGE: 7 YEARS OLD
*NO TRYOUT REQUIRED / REGISTRATION ONLY
*This is an instructional program, designed for new players and/or those who are transitioning from tee-ball who are interested in learning the game and ready to hit from live pitching (Coaches pitch to players).
MINOR JUNIORS
(Also referred to as “Coach Pitch/Machine Pitch” on Blue Sombrero)
BASEBALL LEAGUE AGE: 8 YEARS OLD
*NO TRYOUT REQUIRED / REGISTRATION ONLY
*This is a transitional program intended to further develop the fundamentals of baseball and prepare players for Minor League/"player pitch" divisions
*Players will be learning to pitch in a safe environment with other peers at their age
MINOR LEAGUE
(Also referred to as “Player Pitch” on Blue Sombrero)
BASEBALL LEAGUE AGES: 8 - 11 YEARS OLD
*TRYOUT IS ONLY REQUIRED FOR NEW & RETURNING/"RISING" PLAYERS NOT ALREADY PLACED ON A MINOR LEAGUE TEAM
*This program focuses on player pitch and prepares players for advanced play in the Major League
* Players (aged 8 - 9) who are not drafted to a team will be placed in the Minor Juniors
MAJOR LEAGUE
BASEBALL LEAGUE AGES: 9 - 12 YEARS OLD
*TRYOUT IS REQUIRED FOR ALL NEW & RETURNING/"RISING" PLAYERS NOT ALREADY PLACED ON A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM
*This advanced program is designed for players who are ready to face competitive play and harder/faster pitching/hitting
JUNIOR DIVISION (BASEBALL LEAGUE AGES: 13-14 YEARS OLD)
SENIOR DIVISION (BASEBALL LEAGUE AGES: 15-16 YEARS OLD)
*The Junior division is a transitional program that prepares players to advance to the 60/90 field
*All games in Jr/Sr divisions will be played on the 60/90 field
*Program will be organized/finalized according to enrollment data/numbers - TBD
*Program may require travel (TBD)
*All participants must register for the season and follow the same registration procedure for the other HLL programs.
*A tryout will follow in late winter/early spring for team placement - TBD
* Information about the tryout and the layout of the Jr/Sr programs will be shared after the registration period

CITY OF HOBOKEN’S YOUTH INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS
(AGES 4 - 6)
*Participants within the age ranges of 4 – 6 years old are NOT eligible to participate in the HLL baseball program (NO EXCEPTIONS). However, the City of Hoboken Recreation's Youth Instructional Baseball Program is available to all participants within this age range; this is NOT a HLL sanctioned program
*These programs include youth instructional classes (ages 4 - 5) and tee-ball (aged 6); participants are grouped based on their age
*Participants (aged 4 - 6) interested in joining the City's Youth Instructional Baseball Program should only register with the City of Hoboken on RECDESK and should NOT register for the HLL Baseball Charter on Blue Sombrero: NO EXCEPTIONS

*Please complete the school form in collaboration with your child’s school administrator and then upload it to the online registration at Blue Sombrero
*The school form takes the place of the residency documents and should be completed by participants except those that reside in Hoboken AND attend school outside of Hoboken (in the latter case, participants are required to submit proof of residency documents in place of the school form

* All participants must complete a NEW enrollment to TS for the upcoming season regardless of prior completion/membership to HLL or other local sports programs
*TS will be used during the season for rostering, scheduling, league-wide/team management, communication, & tracking availability
*All Players will be rostered to their respective teams on TS and will have access to the “app” AFTER the divisional drafts conclude; the rostering process takes extensive time and TS may not be immediately available or until late March/April
TRYOUT INFORMATION

MINOR LEAGUE: 1:30 PM – 3:30/4:00 PM

*Registered Managers/Coaches arrive no later than 15 minutes before scheduled sessions
*Tryout sessions may run longer than anticipated due to a high volume of participants this season (TBD)

*There are different surveys available per division/"league" (MINORS OR MAJORS)

*Participants that have completed the “sign-up” survey will receive additional information and a confirmation of their scheduled session AFTER the registration process concludes
*Returning players who plan to remain in their division (from the spring season of 2023) should NOT attend a tryout session and will automatically be placed on their former team.
*There will be a different tryout process/dates for the Junior/Senior League (ages 13-16); a separate survey to sign up for tryouts and additional information will be provided after registration concludes
DRAFT SELECTION & TEAM PLACEMENT
TEAM FORMATION PROCESS FOR “NEW” PARTICIPANTS & RETURNING/“RISING” PLAYERS TRYING OUT FOR TEAM PLACEMENT IN THE MINOR OR MAJOR LEAGUE DIVISIONS
ONLY MANAGERS/ASSIGNED COACHES ARE PERMITTED TO ATTEND THE DRAFTS
TENTATIVE DRAFT DATES:
Major League: Mid -End of March - TBD
Minor League: Mid-End of March - TBD
COACH PITCH & “MINOR JUNIORS” TEAM FORMATION:
*Participants DO NOT attend a tryout session and are NOT part of the drafts; they will be automatically placed onto teams in their corresponding division AFTER the drafts conclude and team placement in the older divisions has been finalized.
*Rosters/additional information for these divisions will be shared/published in EARLY APRIL (TBD) AFTER the draft concludes
TEAM PLACEMENT:
*ONLY registered participants that attend a tryout session will be considered for team placement in the Minor and Major League during the draft;
NO EXCEPTIONS
*There are limited openings available in the Major and Minor Leagues; attending a tryout session does NOT guarantee placement in those divisions
*Notification of team placement will take place AFTER the Major/Minor draft process in late March/Early April (TBD)
*The team formation process is “TOP-DOWN” (Majors Minors Minor Juniors Coach Pitch)
*The team formation process takes extensive time and unfolds one division at a time
*A coach/administrator will notify families regarding team placement & ALL participants will be rostered onto TeamSnap AFTER the draft and team formation process concludes
*All participants that are not NOT DRAFTED to a team in the Minor or Major League will be notified AFTER the draft and placed on their former team from spring 2023, OR if NEW to the HLL, will be placed within the appropriate division
*Please allow plenty of time for the entire process to take place before reaching out to the league about placement. If your child has NOT been rostered to a team and you have NOT heard from an administrator/manager/coach by early April, please contact the league for additional information (hobokenlittleleaguebaseball@gmail.com)
VOLUNTEERING:
*SOME DIVISIONS MAY NEED ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS AS FOLLOWS:
TEAM MANAGER/HEAD COACHES:
*Openings are typically available in Coach Pitch, Minor Juniors, Minor League, and Junior/Senior Divisions
*Position entails leading a team, providing weekly communication, organizing/running practices, and completing ALL duties as a head coach at the games (e.g, assigning field positions, formulating and submitting batting line-ups, keeping a scorebook, and leading the team)
ASSISTANT COACHES:
*Openings *may* be needed in all divisions as noted above and are *sometimes* needed in the Major League
*Position entails assisting the team manager/head coach in all facets of the practices and games as needed

2. Complete the background check provided by HLL; an email will follow with instructions shortly after the registration to Blue Sombrero is completed. Follow instructions accordingly.
3. Complete the following online survey to provide general information and add your entry to the “official” coaching list: https://forms.gle/UkPewyhMV8QQg8Xp7
4. Complete the online course (Adult Awareness for Adults: USABDevelops.com) and submit the certificate upon completion onto the Blue Sombrero account.
*After the registration process is completed and team formation takes place, an administrator OR team manager (Major League) will reach out to inform you about any available positions as needed.
*Signing up and completing the registration process DOES NOT automatically guarantee a volunteer/coaching position in the HLL and positions are granted on an as-needed basis.
