HLL (2025): FAQ’s

(RUNNING LIST: Last Updated 1/6/25)

What is required to register/participate?

1) Complete the online registration to Blue Sombrero/HLL Charter

2) Complete the online enrollment to the 2025 TeamSnap Platform for league-wide and team management

3) If not already placed on a team and desiring to join either the MINOR LEAGUE (8-12) or MAJOR LEAGUE (9-12) divisions, complete the online form to sign up for a tryout session in early March; attendance at ONE session in ONE division is permitted.

What is the League ID# on the School Form?

2300706

What is the League Name on the School Form?

Hoboken Little League

Do I register for Coach Pitch or Minor Juniors on the school form (Blue Sombrero)?

Our HLL program labels/descriptors do not always line up with the LL International forms. If you are registering for Coach Pitch, Minor Juniors, or the Minor League, please select "MINORS" on the options noted within the school form.

When completing the TEAMSNAP process as a volunteer coach, what do I input when it prompts for information about the players (grade, school, etc)?

Please select one of the options: "OTHER" or "N/A COACH" when completing. Please be sure to add your correct/updated NAME, PHONE NUMBER, & EMAIL ADDRESS; it will appear on the TS "app" exactly how YOU enter the information.

I already have a TeamSnap account for fall baseball and other sports. Do I need to enroll again at this time?

Yes, we use ONE massive enrollment system on TeamSnap for ALL that resets EVERY season. We require coaches and players to sign up before every NEW season to update their contact information and ensure accuracy with the data entry (contact information). This is one small and quick task that we ask of you to make the league run more efficiently and stronger - thank you!

Also, note that this year there are mandatory waivers that must be reviewed and completed on TeamSnap to participate.

Do I need to register for more than one division if age permits AND/OR if my child is trying out for a new division?

NO - please register for ONE division; select the desired/intended program at the time of registration that fits your child's correct baseball age.

If your child does not end up playing in the registered division and is not placed there after the draft/team formation process, the league will adjust accordingly.

Which division should I select for my “8-year-old? Minor League vs Minor Juniors?

Parents need to make the decision and select the division that best fits their children. All players aged “8 years old” (baseball age) have the option to:

1) Register and sign up for a tryout session in the Minor League (tryout required)

OR

2) Register for team placement in the Minor Juniors (no tryout required)

  • Minor Juniors is intended to be less intense, highly instructional, and serves as a transitional program to prepare for the more advanced divisions. Players are typically learning to pitch, the program is less competitive, instructional/slower-paced games, etc. Non-hard balls are used.
  • Minor League is considered intermediate play, relatively more advanced/intense than the Minor Juniors, and includes a competitive atmosphere culminating with playoffs and champ games (it can certainly ramp up!). Hard baseballs are used. It involves player pitch and live hitting.

What happens if my child attends a tryout session for the Minor or Major League but does not get drafted to a team in the division?

If your child attends a tryout for the Minor League and is not placed in that division after the tryout/draft, he/she/they will automatically be placed on a team in the Minor Juniors

If your child attends a tryout for the Major League and is not placed in that division after the tryout/draft, he/she/they will automatically be placed on a team in the Minor League

Bottom line: Every child who resides in Hoboken or attends school in Hoboken will play baseball in the league (either way) as long as you register BEFORE the deadline (2/7/24); all others may be waitlisted and enrollment will be based on available roster spots/space in the league.

What is the Schedule for Coach Pitch (CP) and/or Minor Juniors (MJrs)? Or other divisions?

The schedule is typically NOT available at the time of registration and is usually NOT finalized until later into the registration process and is typically published AFTER the registration deadline.

During the registration period, we are still planning for the upcoming season. The final schedule is often dictated by final enrollment numbers, field availability, and the total number of teams in those divisions. We share more information after the registration process concludes and often not until the draft/team formation process is finalized.

With that being said, the CP and Mjrs programs typically meet on the weekends (Saturdays and/or Sundays) during the daytime hours on a rotating schedule for practices and games - TBD. Major League games typically fall during the weeknights with occasional weekends; practices can take place both weeknights or weekends. Minor League typically plays during the weeknights and on Saturday mornings with practices scattered throughout the week. This could change from year to year - All plans are still TBD at this time. Check back for another update soon!

When does the season take place? When will the schedules be released? What can be expected regarding the timeframe for the spring season?

  • The season typically usually takes place from the beginning/mid-April - to mid-late June - TBD
  • We try to work around spring break and do not typically hold games during that period - TBD
  • We do not typically start games before spring break unless the calendar forces that plan, though the decision largely depends on events such as Easter and other related factors - TBD
  • The schedule/plans may have some movement from last year so this tentative plan is not written in stone yet and more information will be coming soon!

What happens if do not finalize the registration as soon as it opens? Will I miss out? Do the programs have a maximum capacity?

Please DO NOT panic about the registration process for HLL baseball. We DO NOT put a maximum capacity on the numbers to enroll for registration for Hoboken residents or those that attend school in town. As long as you register before the deadline (2/7/24), your child will play baseball. We make all efforts to ensure that ALL local registered players play ball!

What if I miss the registration period???

It is typically only those who do not complete the registration within the timeframe/before the deadline or come from other towns who will get "waitlisted" and *may* not be able to participate.

Bottom line: REGISTER ON TIME!

What if I am missing a step or document in one of the online registrations after the deadline?

We thoroughly review all of the registration entries AFTER the deadline. We will contact you if anything is missing at that time.

What does it mean to “rise” to the next division?

Upon entry into the HLL and after the initial placement takes place, players typically remain on the “same" team throughout their baseball careers and grow with their teams until they “age out” of that division. Players typically join a “new" team when they “rise/move up" to the next division. The teams are often transitory at the younger ages - some move up, some players remain on the team… the same transitions often take place with the coaching staff in these younger divisions.

What is the order of the divisions in HLL?

Coach Pitch (7’s) ➡️ Minor Juniors (8-9’s) ➡️ Minor League (8-11’s)➡️ Major League (9-12’s) ➡️ Junior/Senior (13-16’s)

What Divisions require a tryout to determine team placement?

  • Coach Pitch & Minor Juniors: NO tryout required to join
  • Minor & Major Leagues: Tryout is required to join
  • Junior/Senior Divisions: Tryout takes place for team formation purposes
  • Junior/Senior Divisions: Tryout takes place for team formation purposes

“What is Blue Sombrero” and WHY is it necessary?

Eg., I completed the enrollment to TeamSnap. I do not understand why we must also register for “Blue Sombrero” as well.

HLL is a separate entity that runs under a different administration than the local recreation programs. We are NOT governed by the City of Hoboken (recreation department). However, we partner with them during the registration process and they help us secure field space and fund some additional items whenever needed. While we require their support, registering with them is not a requirement to play in our program.

Keeping that in mind, we have an official charter with Little League International (LLI); again, this is a separate program from other local recreation sports that is governed by Little League-sanctioned rules, guidelines, and administrators. We follow their registration process (it is mandatory) and all players must be enrolled with LLI to play - no exceptions.

LLI uses the online “Blue Sombrero” platform as its main hub for registration and internal administrative matters. Therefore, your child cannot play in the program without completing the mandatory online enrollment with "Blue Sombrero". Every participant who partakes in HLL must join our local charter and enroll with LLI.
