The boys Dirt Dawgs teams will be battling in Jenison over Memorial Day Weekend. Last year our 9u team took home 1st place hardware in this tournament. Hope to see you all there rooting on our Wayland Dirt Dawgs.
How the Dirt Dawgs got their start
The Wayland Dirt Dawgs are now in their 9th year of existence. The Dirt Dawgs were created after Chris Kincaid took over a previous travel program known as DHW Baseball Club. DHW was primarily for the Dorr, Hopkins and Wayland areas. Chris's vision at that time was to expand the reach of the program and bring players in from all over West Michigan to make the program more competitive. After an overhaul of the program name and logo the program was relaunched as the West Michigan Dirt Dogs. The Dirt Dogs at the time were basically one team (12u) and was comprised of mainly Caledonia, Byron Center and East Kenwood students. That lone Dirt Dogs team went on to finish 29-24 that year after the previous team had gone 1-25 the previous season. The success of that Dirt Dogs team continued over the next few seasons with seasons of 34-16, 36-13-1 and 21-7 and many championship trophies.
The Dirt Dogs during those early years had a few spin off teams that only lasted a season or two. In 2014, Kincaid added a second Dirt Dogs team which was a 9u team and mostly had players from the Wayland, Hopkins and Byron Center area. This team stayed together for 5 years and exceeded their previous years wins in each of their seasons.
Starting in 2017 a third Dirt Dogs team was created which was an 8u team. This team is now in it's 3rd year of existence and is a 9u team. In 2018 The Dirt Dogs welcomed 3 new teams to the program adding a 9u and 13u baseball team and a 14u softball team. To differentiate the baseball and softball teams the softball program went with the name Dirt Dawgs.
Fast forward to 2019, we have now grown our program to 7 teams total.

Our baseball teams now are almost entirely comprised of players from Wayland Union Schools. Our 2 softball teams are full of diversity and players from several different school districts with the core of both teams still in the Wayland School District.
Our goal as a program, is to improve the skill set of our players so they are prepared to compete at the high school level and beyond. Our primary focus is the Wayland Union Schools baseball and softball programs, but we are out to help any player in our program to be the best player they can be. Below is a look at where our players come from
Wayland Union Schools
South Christian Schools
Hudsonville Schools
East Kentwood Schools
Caledonia Schools
Godwin Heights Schools
Kelloggsville Schools
Wyoming Schools
Hopkins Schools
Grand River Prep
For such a small program we are rich in tradition and have had several players play at the next level in different sports. Here is a look at where some of our players have gone to play and in what sport
Aquinas - Baseball
Davenport - Baseball
Davenport - Bowling
Davenport - Hockey
Olivet - Baseball
Hope - Baseball
Calvin - Baseball
Ohio State - Basketball
KVCC- Baseball
Kalamazoo College - Baseball
Frontier Community College - Baseball

We look forward to sending more players to the next level of their sports and academic careers.
We always want to remember where we got our start. Dirt Dawgs is in its 9th year of existence with only a change of the spelling in the name over the years. Here is a look back at some of our great teams of the past.
