Lincoln Park took it to Steinmetz in both games this season but lost to everyone else it played. However, as the old adage goes,"any team can beat any other team on any given day."
Tuesday September 22, was almost the day when LP beat Northside College Prep in 16" softball but with the Mustangs down to their last out, Jadd Oweimrin stepped up to the plate and started a late game rally.
The rally finished as the LP coach called for an intentional walk of Dante Betti. "I actually thought that was a good play on his part," Coach John Hohenadel proclaimed. "I'm not saying I didn't have the utmost confidence in Swizzy coming through for us though."
That's exactly what "Swizzy" did for the Mustangs! He blasted a bases clearing triple to the left center gap to seal the 4-2 win for Northside.
Northside moves to 7-1 in conference with the sweep over LP as they cruised to the victory in game two.
The Boys Are Back In Town!!!
The Mustangs were welcomed back to the field with a sweep of the Schurz Bulldogs. In the first game the Mustangs went with a solid 10.
"I remember looking around and seeing guys like Sam Margolis, Dante Betti, Eric Brecklin, Paul Huetteman and Sam Swislow and thinking to myself there are a lot of guys on that field who have won a city title just two short seasons ago," Coach John Hohenadel explained. "This could be another one of those special seasons."
Schurz was overmatched in game one as the Mustangs slaughtered the Bulldogs in five innings 13-1.
In game two, Schurz was able to hang around but the Mustangs were able to hit and field when it counted and Northside squeaked out a 10-9 victory.
"There's more where that came from," Hohenadel said. "This team is on the verge of big things!"
Championships are tough to win. Only one team out of 64 get to hear that song "One Shining Moment," after playing through the end of March into the Championship game in April. Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski, Bobby Knight and Dean Smith have 2,686 total combined NCAA men's basketball wins but only nine championships between the three of them. Championships are tough to win!
The same holds true in the lesser recognized 64 team varsity boys CPS 16" softball tournament. It's tough to win!
The Mustangs had a great season and the young men who will graduate at the end of the school year will do great things in this world.
We hope you all come back next season to watch the 2012 Mustangs win city!
Great season fellas! I thank you all for the experience!
