Ironwood Sports Medicine is proud to have Dr. Brian Gruber as team physician. Dr. Gruber enters his 10th year serving as team physician for Ironwood High School.

Dr. Gruber is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and has specific training in orthopedic Sports Medicine.

After receiving his undergraduate degree at Newman University in Kansas where he was also an academic All-American in Baseball, Dr. Gruber went on to graduate with honors and Alpha Omega Alpha recognition from the University of Illinois - Chicago. Dr. Gruber completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then completed his orthopedic and sports medicine training at Washington University.

Because of his expertise in sports medicine, Dr. Gruber has remained highly involved as the team physician for a number of sports teams. He has been involved with University of Michigan team sports including Wolverine Football. While in St. Louis he was an integral part of the medical team for the St. Louis Blues Hockey Club and the St. Louis Rams Football Organization. He was also involved with the March Madness Basketball Tournament and Team USA Development Hockey.

Dr. Gruber has expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. His specific interests are rotator cuff disease and anterior cruciate ligament injury to the knee. Research has always been a passion for Dr. Gruber, and he has been published in the premier orthopedic journals Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

 J. Rob Hutchison, MS, PA-C

Board Certified Physician Assistant


Ironwood Sports Medicine is also proud to have Rob Hutchison as team physician assistant. This will be Rob's 9th year of caring for Ironwood Student-Athletes.

Phoenix-native J. Robert Hutchison is a certified physician assistant. He graduated from Chaparral High School and then went on to the University of Arizona. He was accepted into the Athletic Training internship program at the University. During his four years there he worked and did some travel with the University teams. After leaving the U of A he did an NFL internship with the Arizona Cardinals before starting graduate school at A.T. Still University. He finished at A.T. Still University with a Master’s degree in Athletic Training. Between graduate school and P.A. school he worked in the high school setting as an athletic trainer and worked one season in NFL Europe with the Rhein Fire in Dusseldorf, Germany. He attended Midwestern University for P.A. school and has been working in Orthopedics since he graduated 12 years ago.

Mr. Hutchison received a Bachelor’s in Science from the University of Arizona, a Masters Degree from A.T. Still University and later went on to complete the Physician Assistant program at Midwestern University. During his studies, he focused on Sports Health Care specifically.

Mr. Hutchison is board certified with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
