ROOKIE LEAGUE RULES
Ages 7-8

• Games are six (6) innings long or one hour and 15 minutes; a new inning cannot start after one hour of play.
• Time will be called by the Umpire once the lead runner has had their forward progress stopped by an infielder on the defensive team. If the trail runner has not reached more than half way between 1st and 2nd before time is called, he must go back to original base. (Chalk line halfway between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd will be placed to assist in this call).
• Coaches and spectators will conduct themselves in a professional manner. Vulgarity, yelling at players or derogatory remarks during the game will not be permitted. Those who cannot abide by this rule should expect to be asked to leave and reported to the commissioner. This is a game to teach the children the love of the game of baseball. We as adults should try to the most of our abilities to encourage the children to have fun and enjoy the game and as adults we should lead by example with professionalism, good sportsmanship and appreciation for the fun of the game.
• There will be a maximum of five (5) runs per inning. The last inning of the game a team may bat everyone in their lineup or until 3 outs have occurred.
• Ten (10) players on defense, four (4) outfielders, four (4) infielders, 1 pitcher, and 1 catcher. If fewer players are available, the playing coaches will make the determination as to how to proceed.
• The pitcher must have one foot inside the semi-circle (12 ft. diameter) around the pitching machine and must start at or behind the machine.
• NO Big Barrel Bats allowed. 2 ¼” barrel bats are legal.
• The entire roster bats.
• All players on the roster must play defense for a minimum of two (2) innings.
• A player may be removed from batting order due to injury or illness.
• Teams may substitute runners for an injured base runner; substitutes will be the player who made the last out. (If no outs have been recorded, the courtesy runner will be the previous batter not on base).
• The pitching machine will be set at 42 ft. and 40 mph.
• The pitching machine can only be adjusted at the end of a complete inning of play, unless both teams’ coaches approve the adjustment.
• The ball is declared dead if it hits the machine, cord, or umpire. The batter is awarded 1st base and all other runners advance one base.
• Each team will have a maximum of four (4) coaches per dugout. One to feed the machine, one first base coach, a third base coach, and one coach in the dugout to keep the book and help with batting order. Additional assistance needed to keep the dugouts under control and the games moving will be at the coaches’ discretion.
• One (1) coach maximum is allowed on the outfield instructing their team during defense.
• No head first sliding running to the bag or coming back. Batters throwing a bat will be given a warning, second offense is declared out, and runners don’t advance.
• A batter will be allowed five (5) pitches; batters can’t be called out on a foul ball. Batter will be allowed 3 swinging strikes. Umpire has discretion to call a “No Pitch” which will not count towards the 5 pitches.
• No base on balls, no hit by pitch, no bunting, no stealing and no infield fly rule.
• Unsportsman like conduct will not be permitted from players or coaches. Those unable to abide by this rule will be asked to leave the park and the commissioner will be informed of the issue.
• Player removed for disciplinary reasons will be called out each time he is at bat.
• Little League rules apply in all other cases.
