| Doug, sorry I couldn't help out for this past weekends tourney. The wife was a late show so I had both boys.
I would really like to get the boys some more live action. Do you know of any facilities that would be available during the week or weekends where I could take my boys for some extra mat time? It doesn't have to be a tourney or something like, just wrestling.
Thanks

| Here's what you need to do and you've got the perfect scenerio with two boys..........and this will be very very boring and time consuming......but if they've got the right attitute it will pay off!
First, buy a mat for home either in the basement or garage.... 10' x 10' will be fine...........then maybe 2 days a weeks take them into the area and have them do moves on each other 5 in a row of the same move.......(Much like doing sets if you were weight lifting) then have the other one do the same move 5 in a row, you should start to notice that by the 3rd time they will improve and over the course of several weeks it will become natural..............keep adding moves as you go and make corrections as needed but keep encouraging.............. this should last somewhere between 30 to 45 minutes..........any longer they will lose interest.... mix it up , keep it entertaining....... focus 1 day on each position...
Example: Day 1 Takedowns: Child A 5 single legs (mix in finishes) Child B 5 single legs (Mix in finishes) Child A 5 double legs Child B 5 double legs Child A 5 Duct unders Child B 5 duct unders Child A 5 Cement Mixer or headlocks Child B 5 cement mixer or headlocks
then repeat the process
Day 2 Bottom Child A 5 standups Child B 5 standups Child A 5 Sit outs Child B 5 sit outs Child A 5 sit and switch Child B 5 sit and switch Child A 5 sit and peterson Child B 5 sit and peterson
Repeat Add takedowns from the escape as they develop....
Look above you'll get the idea, IN WRESTLING YOU ARE TRYING TO CREATE MUSCLE MEMORIES. IT TAKES THOUSANDS OF REPS to ACCOMPLISH THIS so it's a very slow and painful process..........don't over push it or have to high of expectations...........you can pick up the intensity level as they improve.......it's also a good idea to go to some open or novice tournament to see how they apply what's learned in a match...........
There is no magical sollution.......It's about work, dedication , repetition...............
Buy some videos (Instructional ones) that detail moves , watch them yourself then teach the moves to your kids as if they were your own ideas....... after they get it down........then you can let them watch them and they will see that hey this guy on TV is doing what my dad is teaching us.............THIS MAY SOUND STUPID BUT kids look up to there dad's and coaches and this will reassure them that you know what your talking about.

| Doug, thanks for the suggestions. The boys won't know what hit them. Just joking. Seriously though, I like the idea of working at home. Never thought of videos, but will give it a try. Thanks again.
