If the batter does not pull back the bat out of the strike zone while in the bunting position,it's an automatic strike.

In ASA softball, merely leaving the bat over the plate would not be considered a strike. The batter must "offer" at the pitch. The batter is not required to pull the bat back. ...when I am PU,I look for twitches or other movemaent of the bat towards the ball to determine whether the batter offered at the pitch or not.
