| Two outs runner on second.Batter with two strikes trys to slap hit ball and misses, but the catcher drops the ball. The batters momentum takes her half way out to the pitcher and she starts to run to first. The umpire calls her out because she was out of the baseline. The catcher did not try to tag her.The coach questioned the calland the umpire used the line to first as the baseline and said the batter runner being five feet forward was out of the baseline.

| Shawn, if the batter-runners original momentum carried her forward out of the batters box towards the pitcher, this would be considered her path providing she makes the effort to run directly to first base after her initial momentum towards the pitcher has stopped. Hope this helps!

| Mickey mouse ump is correct. The base path is the point of where the runner first starts. The designated white baseline has nothing to do with this play.Runner is only called out on running out of the baseline when played upon during a tag situation.
