Hank,
1 out runner on 3rd, Fly ball hit to left, the baserunner tags, but in my opinion leaves early. Throw comes in, runner is safe. Time is called. I have the pitcher throw to 3rd, she catches and steps on 3rd. The umpire, calls her safe, turns to me and said time is out and he can't make a call because time was out, well he just made a call.
After the game I asked if, there was no time out, which I didn't know there was, because I trying to get my P to appeal to 3rd, The umpire would have went with the out call, because he thought she left early. But couldn't call it when time was out.
Please help to understand?
Thank you
Rich

See KNOW YOUR RULES, APPEALS. There are "live ball" appeals, and "dead ball" appeals. Dead Ball Appeals must be made by an infielder or the pitcher or the catcher, with or without the ball. A coach can not make an appeal, but the coach can dictate word for word to the player what he/she wants to appeal.

1/2 Blind Ump, I read the appeals rule 3 times b4 I posted and now 2 more times,LOL. From what I see, Time Out is considered Dead Ball? Because all I read, is we have to appeal b4 the next pitch, which we did. Am I missing it?

Thanks

Rich,
I think you made a legal appeal. The infielder made the appeal, so if it was a time out (dead ball), the appeal should have been granted. If it was live ball, it should have been granted because it was before the next pitch. I am not quite sure, according to your scenario, why time would have been called if the play had not ended. Once an umpire calls time, you have a dead ball situation. The way you described the play, I think your appeal should have been granted, and the umpire rule on what he deemed the correct call.

Rich -there are two kinds of appeals.Live ball appeal and dead ball appeal In your case it is was a dead ball appeal. If runner left early the runner was out and no run scores.
