| Plate ump should be 1/2 down line to 1st base as just a normal mechanic (Didn't see any other runners). He would have had a perect look at the runner's path and arrive at the scene seconds after the crash to preent any fight and toss the runner. Had there been any history of bad feelings in the game?

| 2 things come to my mind 1)The first base fielder is not receiving the ball, so why is she standing on the base? 2) The batter runner went out of her way to make malicious contact with the first base fielder. So even though the fielder was in wrong position, this does not support the Malicious Contact. My call would be to eject the batter/runner from the game. I would also lecture the coach of the defensive team on keeping the bases clear if no play is being made.

| TOURNAMENT – Remember folks, during a tournament if you do indeed rule that this incident as “flagrant” or “malicious,” you must then make another decision. Is this ejection for the game, for the day, or for the tournament? You need to notify the field director or tournament director as soon as possible, and they will help make this decision with you. LEAGUE – Here again, assuming that you’ve ejected this player you should contact your league umpire assigner as soon as possible. The assignor will then pass the information up the “chain of command” to determine if further action is warranted.
