| With the potential winning run on 3B, the defense decides to intentionally walk B3. The coach, in a defensive move, tells F3 to back up F2 at home plate in case the ball gets away. RULING: Illegal pitch. All defensive players except for the pitcher, who must be on the pitcher’s plate, and the catcher, who must be in the box behind home plate, must be stationed in fair territory at the time of the pitch. (6-5A)

| Saw a game one time where a right handed batter fouled off four in a row about 20 feet foul (still within foul territory), and about 125' down the line. After four of those, the defensive coach told the leftfielder to stand right where the ball was being hit on foul ground. According to this ruling, an illegal pitch should have been called. At the game that I saw, the umpires did nothing.

| Carl, According to the ASA rules this setup before the pitch should have resulted in an illegal pitch being called and the runner at 3rd would have awarded home...game over. In FED Softball they can have one foot touching the fairfoul line and still be considered in fair territory.FED reference is 6-2-6 Article 9

| Hi Carl, It got packed away before Christmas(ASA Rules Book), too many little fingers were here to grab onto things. Now I can't find it but it should be the Rules supplemental section. If not it must have been something I picked up from ASA National.
