With R1 on 2B, B2 is hit with an illegal pitch.
RULING: Both the hit batter and the illegal pitch rules are applied. B2 is awarded 1B and R1 is awarded 3B.

Once the illegal pitch is called isn't the ball dead at that point ? Or does the offensive coach get to choose if he wants the pitch or the play?

| Hi henry,
An Illegal Pitch is not a dead ball. It is a delayed dead ball and still live. When the ball hits the batter then it is a dead ball. Awards start at that point. Batter would get 1st base for being hit by pitch and runner would get 3rd for the illefal pitch.
