| (FP Only) B1 has a 2-2 count when F1 delivers a pitch to B1 who (a), tries to avoid the pitch, which strikes B1’s fingers while holding the bat, or (b), swings at the pitch, and the ball strikes B1’s fingers.

| [a] - dead ball immediately, B1 awarded 1B [b] - dead ball immediately, strike on the swing, batter is out. no opportunity to run to 1B on the 3rd strike because the pitch hit the batter causing an immediate dead ball.

| Nov - is correct because in A situation, hand is not part of the bat. B situation was strike 3 swinging, but alaways dead ball when contacting batter.

| RULING: The hands are not considered part of the bat. In (a), B1 has been hit by the pitch and is entitled to first base. In (b), since B1 attempted to hit the pitch, which first struck B1’s fingers, the pitch is ruled a strike, the ball is dead, and B1 is out on three strikes. (7-4G 8-1F)
