R1 is on first base. B2 hits a deep ground ball to F6, who misplays the ball off their chest, then reaches down to pick-up the ball and boots it into the outfield. Out of frustration, F6 throws their glove at the ball, which makes contact with the ball. After the ball is finally controlled and returned to the circle, R1 is on second base, and B2 has reached first base safely.

Nov - whats the call? I would award three bases to both runners regardless of where they were. Thrown equipment by defense hitting ball effecting play is dead ball and three base award.Years ago had a shortstop throw glove in air making contact with ball at line drive going over her head in a slow pitch game. Awarded batter runner three bases.

john, i would do the same... 3 bases, thrown equipment hitting the ball. regardless of where the ball is, i.e. defense cannot argue the ball is not far enough that the runners never would have gotten 3 bases each - doesn't matter. the ball is not dead though, it's a delayed dead, similar to obstruction. award is based on where they were at the time of the violation. if they had reached 1st & 2nd, then both get home if they were short of those 2 bases, then hitter gets 3rd, runner home. the play you had with SS throwing glove @ line drive, hitter would get 3rd

haven't confirmed by checking rule book but i do not believe throwing glove out of frustration makes a difference. anyone else correct me if i'm wrong on that.

you guys bring up an interesting point here. It is 3 bases on a batted ball. 2 Bases on a thrown ball and 1 base on a pitched ball.
So in this instance I would have to rule 2 bases since yes the ball was batted but once the fielder boots the play is it a still a batted ball or would you consider it a thrown ball. For example a fielder reaches down and kicks the ball is this still considered a batted ball or a thrown ball.
Thoughts or am i off my rocker?

technically by rule not a thrown ball. This was an intentional contact made by thrown loose equipment (glove) at a batted ball that had made contact with fielder, but not controlled and thrown by shortstop.
ASA rule 8-5 F
Delayed dead ball and the batter and runner/runners are entitiled to three bases from time of pitch. R- 1 scores and B-2 who had become R-2 is awarded third base.
