| throw from outfield to third baseman who has the ball and "blocks" the base. the slide knocks the ball loose . the shortstop backing up the play recovers the ball and tags runner who did not reach third due to the collision during the slide. offense wants obstruction. yes or no?

| If the third baseman had the ball and then the collision, at that point and time there was no obstruction. Now with the second baseman comming over to make the play, it would depend on what is going on. If the runner was trying to get to the base after the collision and was blocked by the third baseman without the ball, that would be Obstruction. If the base runner made no attempt to get to the base after knocking the ball loose, I do not think I would call Obstruction.

| Opa is correct, again! If the runner is trying to get to the base and the third baseman is blocking or hindering in anyway without the ball, you've certainly got obstruction. Once that ball came out of the glove, the third baseman no longer has the right to block the base.
