Runner on third, base on balls to the batter. Batter rounds first and the pitcher from the circle, fires it over to first. But the throw goes off of the first baseman's glove and out of play. The umpires allowed the runner from third to score, and awarded the batter third base. Is this correct? And if so, why?

Carrie, you always get 2 bases from the time of release. In this case the batter runner already had first base when the pitcher made a play. So she gets third base and the girl on third gets home. The umpires were correct in there ruling.
Hope this helps

One base on a deflected ball off the first baseman's glove into dead ball territory...runner on first, only gets second base...

Two (2) bases, Chris. Doesn't matter if the ball deflects or not on an overthrow. Two bases from the last base touched at the time of the release. It's one (1) base from the time the ball rolls out of play if the defensive player has possession of the ball and then looses control as the result of contact or a tag where the ball comes out. No possession was ever established in this play.

Chris, Perry is correct. Doesn't matter if the ball is deflected or not

Now whats the call if the ball is pitched from the rubber and goes out of play?

Chris: Forget the deflection. It's two bases.
Mike: One base from the time of the pitch, if it's an actual pitch from the rubber.

Perry is correct, if a pitched ball is for example thrown over the backstop and into deadball area. All runners would advance one base. If this pitch is ball 4 on the batter, the batter would only get 1st base.
