| Runner on first (R1), and batter (B1) hits a grounder to the deep hole at short stop. Short Stop bobbles the ball and then throws to first and the ball goes out of play. At the time of the throw, B1 had already crossed first. R1 had slipped and fallen, and had not yet touched second when the SS threw the ball. Where do you put (award) the runners?

| lead runner controls the answer runner from 1B gets 3B and batter-runner gets 2B cannot be awarded more than entitled to but can get less depending on leading runner[s]

| Lead runner determines awarded bases. RULE 8-5-G. In this case, the lead runner get's second and third. As a result, you can only give the batter second.
