| There is a runner on 2nd with one out. On a base hit to centerfield, she is attempting to score when the center fielders perfect throw strikes the base umpire who lost site of the ball. Runner scores easily and the batter /runner advances to 2nd. What's the call?

| Umpire is "part of the field" on a thrown ball. The ball should remain live.

| all comments are correct but here's an additional one not on the rule.... base umpire 'lost sight of the ball' that should NEVER happen!! chest to the ball always, know where it is and where it's going. we always need to know where the ball is! shame on him/her. now the defensive coach will give the umpire hell - rightfully so - but lose the argument. embarrassing

| Ed Nov is spot on. I officiated a slow pitch game a couple of years ago using two man system for playoff game. Home plate umpire out towards pitching mound when not watching throw from outfield hit squarely on head. Ball bounced ten feet in air off umpires head. Fortunately umpire was fine , but embarrassed. Umpires reaction to me was, are you ready for this, " why didn't you tell me the ball was coming ". Live and learn.
