| Was at a tourney last weekend and batter bunted. The bunted ball hit the batter when she was in the area directly in front of the plate between the two batter's boxes. The ump called "dead ball - hit her in the box." He said that area in between the boxes is an extension of the box. I saw the same thing happen last night and the ump called the batter out. Which call is correct?

| Cindy, The first Ump needs to go back to the rule book and look it over closer. The box is the box, there are no extensions. The batter is considered out of the box if at least 1 foot is completely out of the box and touching the ground. If the batter was in the unmarked area in front of the plate, she was clearly out of the box and would be out.

| cindy, both guys are correct - she's out now, if her foot was in the air over the "outside the box" area she's not out but based on ump's explanation of 'extension of the box' ump clearly doesn't know the rules
