| player hits a ball to ceterfield, rounded first and was obstructed by first baseman and it was signalled by the umpire. Our player saw this so she continued running towards 2nd base. The 1st base Coach did not see the obstruction signal, so he yelled for her get back to first. She stopped and turned back to 1st and ended up getting in a run down. The umpire that signalled the obstruction called her out and said it was no longer obstruction because she got in a run down.
Is this the correct call?
If she just continued to 2nd and was called out by the umpire on a close play what should the call have been?

| Since the runner never interfered, the obstruction would still stand. And, if in the umpire's judgement the runner could have reached second base if the obstruction would have never occurred, then the runner should be awarded second.

| Perry has it right. Either way, the runner should be safe, standing on second.

| First situation: the umpire needs to go back to school. Runner should be awarded second after the play is done. Second situation: call the out, and then as a result of the obstruction, remove the out, and give the runner second.

| Bob M. is right on the money. I couldn't have said it better myself.

| Perry and Bob M. are right on top of this one. Obstruction stands, runner safe at second in both situations.

| Guys you are correct and the umpire blew the call. The obstructed runner should be awarded the base in the umpires opinion that they would have reached had obstruction not occurred. Remember an obstructed runner may not be called out between the two bases where the obstruction occurred in this scenario.

| Perry & Neal have it correct. the others are only partially correct. the runner is never out between the bases she was obstructed but you all stated that she is awarded 2nd base. that's only if you feel she would have made it to 2nd [and it sounds like it's possible - always err to the offended] but it's not automatic as you imply. as Perry & Neal stated, award the base she would have had, which could be back to 1st base. Neals' 2nd situation she'd be at 2nd. in his 1st you'd have to be sure she would have reached 2nd
