| high school softball rules: fly ball into right field along the foul line in fair territory falls in front of right fielder. Ball falls fair than rolls into foul territory. As fielder goes to pick up the ball her gloves touches the ball, ball goes into dead ball territory. Also, as plate umpire I saw the runner approach second base as ball was sent into dead ball area but not having touched second yet. During a conference with my field umpire, the field umpire thought she had reached second when the ball was placed into dead ball area. Where is the batter/runner placed?

| Little caveat on response. If the umpire judges the fielder intentionally knocked the ball out of play it is 2 bases past the last base touched at the time the ball was kicked, pushed etc.

| RKB? This is an ASA site. You should quote ASA, not Federation. Ninety plus percent of Federation rules are copied from ASA.

| The question was with regard to high school rules. Unless the state plays high school ball under ASA rules what good would it do to answer the question with a rule set that doesnt apply?
