| First question...batter swings at pitch and as she swings pitch hits her hand. Is that a strike or is batter awarded first base?
Second question...batter turns and leans into pitching lane attempting to bunt. Batter misses the pitch but ball hits her in the helmet. Is the batter awarded first base because if she wasn't leaning over the plate to bunt, she wouldn't have been hit by the pitch?

| If the batter is swinging at the pitch and is hit, it is a dead ball strike. If it is strike 3, the batter is out.
If the batter is in the strike zone and hit by the pitch, or prevents the ball from entering the strike zone, it is also a dead ball strike.

| Batter, hits ball between third base and pitcher. Umpire calls the batter runner safe at first. Batter when she hits first base goes down and starts to cry and is in pain and is holding her left hand. Coach of the team in the field now comes out and says that the pitch must of hit the batter/runner when she swung and wants a strike called and a dead ball. How would you rule this?

| Typically there is a completely different sound when the ball hits the hands. If you didnt see or hear it initially why would you change your call after the fact? I see batters shaking their hands all the time because they werent holding the bat tight enough and got stung when the hit the ball. Have even seen younger ones cry. If I didnt see or hear it hit the hands, Im not changing my call later.

| all good answers RKB. if you have a partner you can ask, you may do that but if the partner saw the ball hit the batter's hand he/she should have killed it right away. so there is no reason to ask for help. i wouldn't change my call either - if you didn't see it you can't change it
