| Runner on third, one out. Pop up in the infield right in front of second base. As the second baseman and shortstop converge to make a play. The runner from third begins to call out, "I've got it. I've got it. I've got it." Loudly and repeatedly. As a result, both fielders, thinking that their teammate will make the play, give up on the ball and the ball drops in with the batter-runner reaching first base safely. Do you have a call? A warning? Play on?

| I think that you could rule this as verbal interference. The runner created the interference, she's then out. There was was no chance for a double play, so let the batter have first base.

| I think that the call should be interference, and the umpire should declare two (2) outs.

| Interference definition - The act of an offensive player or tem member, umpire or spectator that impedes, hinders, or confuses a defensive player attempting to execute a play. Contact is not necessary. This scenario would come under the offensive player who is verbally confusing the defensive players attempting to execute a play. As I read this situation, I would rule interference on the runner who is verbally interfering and call this runner out. Runner batter would get first and all runners forced would move one base.

| ASA Rules Supplement #33, clearly states that any kind of distraction, including verbal, can be ruled interference.
