Runner on first no outs. Runner breaks on the pitch and the batter hits a ball to left field that is not caught. The runner thinks the ball is caught and retreats toward first. The left fielder seeing two runners near first base throws the ball to first after the batter passes first base. The throw goes directly into dead ball territory. At the time of the throw the last base legally touched by both runners is first. Where do you place the runners?

runners are placed on 2nd and 3rd. the award is 2 bases if you award the batter 3rd that would force the lead runner home which cannot happen. therefore, batter gets 2nd, runner from 1st gets 3rd

I agree with Nov. You go by the lead runner.

I think that this is pretty basic and everybody seems to be on the same page very easily. Lead runner would dictate the awards.
