| 0 outs, Runner at 2nd, Pitcher strikes out batter. Infield dashes to mound to celebrate. Runner bolts for 3rd and is chased down by pitcher and tagged out. My question...is the ball actually "in control" while in the circle during the celebration? Time had not been called by me The runner took the risk to advance without stopping. Fortunately, there was a tag. Was this simply an attempted steal that resulted in an out or is there something missed? Thanks for your thoughts!

| If the pitcher has the ball in her posession and either in her hand or glove within the circle, the lookback rule is in effect. If the runner was on the base and left it to advance to third, you have a lookback violation, the ball is dead and the runner is out.

| Runner is out on the tag. Runner can advance. There was no batter in the box, the ball had just come into the circle, and nobody had come set. The ball is live and the runner can advance as long as she goes directly to the next base.

| to many ifs on the description of the play. Did pitcher have possession of ball in circle for look back rule to be in effect. Where was the runner positioned when trying to steal third base. If off base can stop once and immediately go to next base on a steal. Bigger question is if umpire did not call runner out for look back rule then it is a straight steal attempt and batter is out on tag during a live play.
