| Is there a pitch height limit in fastpitch? I was calling a 12-U team that didn't have a good pitcher. She lobbed the ball in almost every pitch. One had a high arch on it, but it came through the strike zone. After I called it a strike, the coach politely, yes politely, stated that was an illegal pitch because of how high it was. I told him I was not familiar with that rule and would check into it. He said it was an ASA rule Is there such a rule in fastpich? Confused ump

| There is no such rule, not sure what he is thinking. Bottom line is where the pitch crosses the plate. In baseball a very long time ago Steve Hamilton threw the folly floater which was a very high lob, bottom line was where it crossed the plate

| Strike zone is batter's height at the plate (letters to knees). If it crosses there, it's a strike. Throw it as high as you want (or can).

| The true ASA fast pitch strike zone is from the arm pits to the top of the knee. That is it, there is no height mention at all in the rule book in fast pitch. If a legally pitched ball touches the ground before the plate then enters the strike zone or touches the plate, would not be considered a strike. There is a minimum and maximum height of a pitch in slow pitch.
