| Team A begins the fame with #4 listed as the DP and #5 listed in the 10th position in the order as the FLEX and playing F7. In the second inning, the coach of Team A makes the following change: #4 will play defense for #5. When they go on defense in the next inning, the coach makes the following change: a sub #6 will be the FLEX and play F7. HP does not permit the change and says that #5 must be first re-inserted into the lineup and then substituted for by #6. Is the HP correct?

| When the DP played defense for the FLEX, the team dropped to nine players. Substitute #6 can enter directly into the FLEX SLOT. When the DP played defense for the FLEX, #5, #5 HAD TO LEAVE THE GAME. The Home Plate umpire cannot force her back in the game just to be replaced. HP is wrong. Sub can enter directly into the 10th Slot, and team returns to 10 players.
