| Field umpire is in C position. Ball hit to second with runner going from first to second apparently is nicked in the heel as she is running to second. Umpire at C is blocked out and has a poor angle to definitely call dead ball. If the plate umpire, who should be following the play, make the call immediately? Is there a set responsibility for making this call? I was told, adamantly, that it was the field umpire's call, Period!.

| If I am the coach I would ask the field ump to ask home plate ump for help !!

| If the plate umpire saw it, and he thinks that the base umpire missed it, the plate umpire should hesitate for just a brief moment, and then make the call.
