| Abel the starting shortstop is scheduled to bat second in the top of the third inning. On the way to the third base coaching box Abel's coach reports to the home plate umpire that substitute Baker will bat for Abel. Abel comes to bat and doubles. Is this batting out of order? Is Abel out? Has Baker entered the game? Has Abel reentered?

| My best guess. Baker is in now in the game. Abel comes back as an unreported substitute and gets a double. To me, if this is appealed before the next pitch, Abel would now becomes legal, and then would be called out.

| I agree. Abel is out under that scenario.

| Would Abel be called out, and, taken off of second base? Both?

| Abel is out. Abel is removed from second base. The next batter would be the batter that appears after Abel on the line-up card.
