Mudcats Nip Clancy's At The Finish Line

Clancy's jumped out to a quick lead on Mudcat starter, Ron Mitko. Zach Galasso launched a two-run opposite field homerun to start the scoring in the top of the first. Quinn's responded with one in the bottom of the first and then Clancy's came back with 5 more in the second inning making it 7-1. However, the Mudcats would not go away. Dean Langholz drove in Mike Mroz in the bottom of the 2nd after Mroz doubled making it 7-2. The Mudcats added 3 more in the 3rd inning and one more in the 4th to tighten the score at 7-6. Meanwhile, Frank Szubra came on in relief of Mitko and held the Clancy's bats to zero runs in 3 innings of work. In the top of the 7th, the Mudcats went with Jim Pasquine on the mound to keep the score close but he allowed a run when Erik Fichter singled in Galasso with the insurance run making the score 8-6. The Mudcats found some 7th inning magic. Tony Kostelnik reached base when his ground ball to short took a Winklevoss hop and found its way into the outfield. Kostelnik stole second and moved to third on Brett Ferlic's single. Ricky Olasz followed with a cue shot down the 3rd base line that hopped over the bag leaving the bases full. Mike Mroz walked which scored Kostelnik, making it 8-7. Manager Lou Kammermeier then went to his bullpen and brought in Lou Kammermeier. Kammermeier got Tyler Amrhein to ground to short but Clancy's could not turn the game ending double play as Amrhein beat the throw to first. On the play, Ferlic scored, tying the game at 8-8. Clancy's allowed Amrhein to steal 2nd without a throw, leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd. Kammermeier decided to intenionally walk Dean Langholz to load the bases in order to face Kevin Quinn. Quinn worked the count to 3-2 and drew the game ending walk, driving in Olasz, to give Quinn Construction the comeback victory.
