Harvey Wilner's Tavern Stymies Clancy's Pub

By Josh Yohe, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW

George Nahay impressed his Harvey Wilner`s Tavern teammates with a complete-game victory over red-hot Clancy`s Pub. Nahay allowed eight hits in an efficient outing during the Brewers` 7-2 victory. Nahay isn`t flashy but made Monday`s victory look quite easy. He needed only 21 pitches in a three-inning stretch midway through the game . He only struck out two batters but never seemed to be in danger of faltering. "I was impressed with how he pitched," Harvey`s slugger Tim Donnelly said. "He throws strikes, and that`s what you`ve got to do in this league. I think we have one of the best defenses in the league, and he took advantage of that tonight." Harvey`s offense isn`t so bad, either. Following an uncharacteristically quiet game against Klingensmith Insurance 24 hours earlier, the Brewers exploded for six early runs. Nahay, Nick Miller and Mike Pohodich drove in runs during the first inning to put Harvey`s ahead, 3-1. Donnelly then made extended Harvey`s lead in the bottom of the second when he launched his seventh home run of season over the right field fence. Donnelly`s three-run homer leaves him tied with Klingensmith`s Scott Dolekary for the league lead in home runs. He leads the league with 32 RBI. "I don`t actually feel as good as I did earlier in the season," Donnelly said. "But still, I`m having a good year." Donnelly lost weight during the offseason, hoping to bounce back from a subpar 2010. He appears to have regained his reputation as the DNL`s most-feared hitter. The slugger is confident regarding his team`s chances when the DNL postseason begins in August. "I think it`s as wide open as it`s ever been," he said. "There is not one dominant team or dominant pitcher out there. No one is going to win with pitching. Whoever hits the (heck) out of the ball the most is going to win." Clancy`s loss ends a seven-game winning streak for the league`s hottest team. Kammermeier`s squad is in a battle with Harvey`s and Quinn Construction for the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the DNL playoffs. The top three seeds in the field earn a first-round bye, while the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds must compete in a preliminary round. "If we run the table, we know we`ll get one of the seeds that we want," Kammermeier said. "We know we have a really good team when everyone shows up. But this one, tonight definitely hurts. I just hate when we lose." The Brewers are a victory away from clinching no worse than the No. 3 seed. Despite playing without injured catcher Tyler Scruggs and vacationing catcher Mike Neckerman, Harvey`s is playing its best baseball entering the playoffs. "It`s all about defense with us," Harvey`s manager Jeff Kuzma said. "George isn`t a strikeout pitcher. He throws strikes and makes the defense get the job done. Sometimes, our defense is good, and sometimes, it isn`t. Thank God it was good today."
