Red Hot Bowser Wins Third In A Row
By Josh Yohe, MCKEESPORT DAILY NEWS
Here come the champs. Burned by recent comments from Daily News League badboy Jeff Rubinsak, who predicted Bowser Pontiac would miss this summer's postseason, the Twins seem to have suddenly found their form. Bowser won a third straight game and moved into sole possession of third place in Wednesday's 8-2 victory over Quinn Construction at the Winkle Dome. "Don't count us out yet," Bowser manager Andy Brettschneider said. "And don't call it a comeback. Right now, we're like Tiger Woods. We're close to losing it, but we're close to greatness." Once again, the great Jim Onder was behind Bowser's revival. The all-time great has eight hits in his past three games and went 2-for-3 Wednesday and crushed a three-run homer. Onder also pitched 52/3 innings for the victory, his second win in Bowser's past three games. Onder allowed only three hits to a Quinn Construction lineup that embarrassed Bowser less than two weeks ago. "Jim Onder is showing the young guys how to play the game of baseball," Brettschneider said. Mike Finocchi finished off the Bowser win by recording the last four outs. Onder wasn't the only Bowser player to enjoy a productive night offensively. Dalaine Ofchinick, another future Hall-of-Famer, has broken out of an early-season funk. He has four doubles in his past three games and went 2-for-3 against Quinn. Jared Frye and the venerable Ron Kramer also added two hits for the Twins. Now in third place, Bowser can go a long way toward clinching a playoff berth Sunday when it faces winless Highlands in a doubleheader. "I feel good about the team right now," Brettschneider said. "Who knows what will happen? We are so close to falling apart, but then again, we're coming together. We don't make any sense, but I wouldn't want to play us."
