Section 1’s Pearl River and Clarkstown South both reached the semifinals of the 33rd Annual James "Ace" Morabito Memorial Invitational Softball Tournament at the Mudville Softball Complex in Herkimer, New York this past weekend, with the Pirates falling 2-1 to eventual champ Brockport (Section 5) and the Vikings losing 5-1 to Valley Central (Section 9).

Pearl River and Clarkstown South both went 3-1 in the tournament, as did fellow Section 1 school Suffern. Port Chester was 0-4.

Valley Central represented Section 9 well, going 3-1 and reaching the championship game before falling to Brockport 2-0. Wallkill went 1-3.

Preston high school of the PSAL went 2-2 in the tournament while independent school Long Island Lutheran went 1-3 to round out the Tri-State area teams.

NOTE: Since Pearl River and Clarkstown South are both from Section 1 and Hamburg high school and Sacred Heart Academy are both from the Buffalo area, all four schools decided to forgo the third place game (which would have been Pearl River-Clarkstown South) and just play matchup games.

Pearl River faced off against Hamburg, the defending Class A state champion, while Clarkstown South was paired with Sacred Heart.
