LEAGUE RULES & REGULATIONS

Playing Time: 

  • Each player must play at least five (5) continuous minutes of each half, meaning the five (5) starters must play five (5) minutes before substitutions. If five (5) new players rotate into the game they must also play five (5) continuous minutes before substitutions. This does not mean substitutions need to occur every five (5) minutes. Substitutions will be based on the coach’s discretion depending on the number of players on the team. 

Attendance: 

  • Games & practices are mandatory.

  • Excused absences from practice or games should be done in a timely & appropriate manner.  Notify all absences to the head coach and/or assistant coaches of the team.  Unexcused and/or continual absences from practices or games will result in not starting subsequent game(s). 

Rough Play: 

  • Rough play will not be tolerated. Every effort will be made to call all fouls & keep rough play from getting out of control. If needed, a player will be ejected from a game. 

Coaches: 

  • Head coach may stand. All other coaches must be seated during the game. 

Team Responsibilities: 

  • If your team is scheduled as the first game of the day, then you are responsible to assist with setting up the gym. This typically takes place thirty (30) minutes before the first game.

  • At the end of the day, the teams involved in the last game, are responsible for assisting in tearing down & cleaning up the gym, unless there are travel games scheduled after the elementary games.

  • During game play, The HOME team shall provide an ADULT to run the scoreboard & the AWAY team will provide an ADULT to keep track of playing time & fouls. As you can tell, these must be ADULTS. 

Parent Conduct: 

  • Parents are expected to act in a proper manner. They should not yell anything other than words of encouragement.

  • No vulgar language will be tolerated. No verbal abuse of game officials will be tolerated. One (1) warning will be given for the 1st infraction. The 2nd infraction will result in the person being asked to leave the facility. Refusal to do so will result in law enforcement being contacted. 

Substitute Players: 

  • Substitute players from other CGYBA teams are permitted to play for another team during the season to avoid game forfeits.  Substitute players must be reported to the scorekeeper prior to game start.  Substitute players will not be permitted to enter a game after it begins.

  • Substitute players will not be permitted for the end-of-year double-elimination tournament.


5TH/6TH GRADE (5G/6G) DIVISION RULES 

Game Time:  

  • All 5th/6th Grade (5G/6G) games will be two (2) 20-minute halves with each team having two (2) timeouts per half.  Halftime will be three (3) minutes.  If needed & if time permits, overtime will be four (4) minutes with each team having one (1) timeout.  The clock shall be a running clock with the exception of timeouts, injuries & the last minute of each half & overtime.  

Defense:  

  • Man-to-man defense is expected for the season.

  • Pressing will be allowed for 5G/6G games starting the second half of the season. Pressing will be permitted ONLY in the 2nd half & ONLY if your team is leading by fewer than ten (10) points.  

Fouls:  

  • Each player is given five (5) fouls per game. If they reach the 3rd foul in the 1st half, they must sit for the remainder of that half.

  • Players will shoot one-and-one foul shots on 7th team foul. There will be no double bonus.  

Clock Management:  

  • The clock will run continuously except for timeouts & injuries.

  • In addition, the clock will stop in the last minute of the first half & overtime on all dead balls. The clock will also stop in the last minute in the second half on all dead balls unless there is a fifteen (15) point or greater deficit.  

Fouls:  

  • During games, fouls will not be kept.   However, the officials reserve the right to remove a player for excessive fouling.

  • There will be no one-on-one foul shots or double bonus.

  • Play may be stopped briefly by the officials to educate & instruct players regarding game rules.  

Clock Management: 

  • The clock will run continuously except for timeouts & injuries. 
  • In addition, the clock will stop in the last minute of the first half & overtime on all dead balls. The clock will also stop in the last minute in the second half on all dead balls unless there is a fifteen (15) point or greater deficit.

 3RD/4TH GRADE (3G/4G) DIVISION RULES 

Game Time: 

  • All 3rd/4th Grade (3G/4G) games will be two (2) 18-minute halves with each team having two (2) timeouts per half.  Halftime will be three (3) minutes.   If needed & if time permits, overtime will be four (4) minutes with each team having one (1) timeout.  The clock shall be a running clock with the exception of timeouts & injuries. 

Defense: 

  • Man-to-man defense will be played for the entire season.  Double teaming is not permitted.  All players are expected to guard their own opponent.  However, double teaming WILL NOT be called within the key. 
  • Pressing will not be allowed for 3G/4G games at any time. 

Fouls: 

  • During games, fouls will not be kept.   However, the officials reserve the right to remove a player for excessive fouling. 
  • There will be no one-on-one foul shots or double bonus. 
  • Play may be stopped briefly by the officials to educate & instruct players regarding game rules. 

Clock Management: 

  • The clock will run continuously throughout both halves except for timeouts & injuries.
