EAGLES SPLIT HOME AND HOME WITH MARKHAM TO START OFF 2005

May 15, 2005
It was a great day for baseball. And the boys of summer did not disappoint their fans. B.J. Hackett started the afternoon off early with a home run to left field. Newcomer John Line from Bowmanville thought that it looked like fun and promptly gave the Eagles a three run lead with his first homer of the year. Hackett scored again in the third inning when another Bowmanville product Steve DeGraff singled him home.
While the Eagles were scoring runs veteran pitcher Mark Foster was dueling the Markham batters. He managed to hold the visitors to only three runs before he turned the reins over to Mike “Ned” Landers in the fifth inning. Mike fell victim to some errors by his third baseman and yielded the tying run in the seventh.
Manager Paul Sharp then turned the ball over to Jason” Mailman” Carroll. In the eighth inning, the Eagles plated Dave Trew and Carroll with some clutch hitting by Bryan Landry and Chris Stark. Jason bent a little in the top of the ninth, allowing Markham a run but used the gloves of Steve DeGraff and Steve Foster to end the threat and give the hometowners their first victory of the season.
Kendal evened the series with Markham at one to one after suffering a defeat, on Saturday, in a tight 3-2 loss. Returning veteran Shane Cowan pitched six great innings.
Rich Wood of Bowmanville was the $70 winner of the 50-50 draw and was nice enough to return $40 to the team. Kendal’s next home game is the holiday Monday May 23 vs. the Port Hope Flyers. This will be an unusual 1:00 pm starting time. We hope to see everyone out to enjoy the holiday and baseball.

EAGLES HEAD INTO PLAYOFFS ON A WINNING NOTE

August 3, 2005
The Kendal Eagles finished the 2005 regular season in winning fashion this past Sunday in Kendal with a 4-0 victory over the Pickering Red Sox. Mark Foster picked up his fourth win of the season tossing a complete game shut-out giving up 4 hits and striking out 7. Steve Foster lead the offence going 1 for 3 with 2 R.B.I.'s. Steve also played some stellar defence at shortstop, making some key plays throughout the game.
The Eagles are now heading into the playoffs with a record of 16 and 12. In a rematch from the 2004 play-downs, the Kendal Eagles will be playing off against the Whitby Canadiens to see who will represent the EOBA in the Senior "B" Ontario Baseball Association Playoffs on the Labour Day Weekend in Courtright. In 2004, Kendal swept the Canadians in 2 straight games by scores of 11-0 and 3-2. This year Kendal faces a much tougher Whitby club that has added some big bats and improved it's defense signifigantly. The best 2 out of 3 series game times and locations are as follows:
Game #1 - Friday August 12th, 7:30pm @ Portage Park
Game #2 - Saturday August 13th, 12:00 pm @ Kendal
Game #3 - Sunday August 14th, 1:00 pm @ Kendal (If necessary)
So plan to come out to Kendal and cheer on your local Eagles as they try to knock off Whitby for a birth in the Provincial Championships.
