More Information about Camp Rotary

Located in the central part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, Camp Rotary has one of our country's clearest spring-fed lakes, scenic rolling hills, and fragrant pine trees, making it one of the most beautiful camps in the country. With over 1100 acres and abundant natural resources, Camp Rotary is able to offer a wide variety of programs and welcomes Scout troops from both in and out-of-state each summer. Camp Rotary boasts perhaps the most beautiful waterfront of any Scout camp and has specialty programs for older Scouts and first-year campers alike. Always one of the most popular areas in camp is the dining hall where tasty, well-balanced meals are served family style. Premiere shooting sports ranges, COPE, climbing and rappelling, our high-tech M.A.D.E. area, and modern shower houses make Camp Rotary an ideal camp for any unit!

BSA Health Form (Parts A, B, & C) Required for Youth & Adult Campers

Each Scout who goes to Summer Camp must have a physical and have the 4-page BSA Health Form (Parts A, B, and C) filled out completely and signed by a certified and licensed physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Troop 77 will not take your child to Camp Rotary without their health form filled out completely and with all signatures (participant, parent/guardian, second parent/guardian, and physician/nurse practitioner/physician assistant).  These medical forms include instructions to attach a copy of both sides of your health insurance card.

Troop 77 recommends parents/Scouts keep a copy of these forms for yourself. Health forms are good for 1 year from the date signed by the physician.

Parents/adults/Scout leaders who will be staying at Camp for some or all of the camp week must also have a physical and have the 4-page BSA Health Form (Parts A, B, and C) filled out completely and signed. Adults will not be able to attend Summer Camp without these signed forms.

Merit Badges and Training

Camp Rotary opens the online merit badge sign up system in March or April. It is best to sign up for desired merit badges as soon as possible as the sessions can fill up fast. If you have any questions about the online sign up system, please contact Summer Camp Coordinator Abby Lorenzen (abbylorenzen@gmail.com).

Once signed up for merit badges, be sure to check the class catalog for prerequisites which must be completed before arriving at Camp. It is highly recommend you obtain a copy of the merit badge pamphlet/worksheet and bring those with you to Camp.

Troop 77 Camp Checklist for Campers

Do not have your Scout bring a supply of snacks. Scouts get plenty of food and the raccoons would love to check out your tents and gear! Spending money for each Scout to visit the camp store for a soda/candy bar now and then is recommended.

A few extra dollars per Scout is also recommended for them to consider purchase of Camp souvenirs from the camp store

Dietary Restrictions

If your Scout has a specific dietary restriction, please contact Camp Rotary (989-386-7943) at least two weeks prior to Summer Camp.

Parents Invited to Attend Camp

Parents are invited to serve as adult leaders at Summer Camp. Parents can sign up to attend all week or part of the week. Having parents serve as adult leaders helps the Troop provide the necessary oversight and flexibility. It's also a great way to make memories with your Scout. Parents who have attended camp in the past have indicated they enjoyed relaxing at Camp and bonding with other Troop parents and leaders. Parent planning to attend camp overnight as adult leaders may need to bring their own gear, including a tent. If you don't have your own tent or gear, contact Scoutmaster Kori Sperling to see what troop supplies might be available.

Parents intending to serve as adult leaders for all or part of the summer camp week need to submit a MDHHS Central Registry Clearance Letter (see below) to get into Camp and must submit the BSA Health Form (Parts A, B, and C).

Clearance Required for Adult Camp Attendees and Visitors

The State of Michigan requires the Michigan Crossroads Council (MCC) to document that every individual aged 21 and older on camp property has been cleared by the Central Registry/State of Michigan. If a person aged 21 years or older plans to attend or visit the MCC Summer Camp, a letter from the State of Michigan stating you have been cleared by the Central Registry must be on file in the camp office.

Upon approval, the person seeking a clearance will receive a letter from the State of Michigan showing they have been cleared. You must keep the original for your records and submit a copy upon arrival at the camp. This requirement applies to all adults, including registered BSA adults who have been background checked by the BSA. Parents/adults will NOT be allowed in Camp without the letter of clearance.

All Adults Leaders and parents are advised to apply for their Clearance letter several weeks prior to arrival at camp to receive your clearance results in time. There is no charge for the clearance results.

Summer Camp Parking Permit

In order to park in the Camp Rotary parking lot, you will need to fill out and print the permit form below. Cut out and place the slip in your windshield on the driver’s size of your vehicle. By placing this permit in your vehicle, it will allow Camp Rotary to contact you if there is a problem with where your vehicle is parked. Failure to display this slip in your vehicle can result in the vehicle being towed at your expense.

Preparing to Leave for Summer Camp

Please check the Scoutbook event page for departure time and location. All scouts need to wear their class A uniform. Bring a sack lunch as there will not be lunch served. In addition, bring your swimsuit and towel separate from the rest of your gear as the swim test will happen as soon as we arrive.

Parents: Please have your Scout drop all gear near the trailer (except their carry-on items, such as the day's lunch, swimming suit, water bottle, etc). Then, please park your vehicle in another parking lot space lot to make room for other parents to park and drop gear near the trailer.

Everyone's gear goes in the trailer (even the adults) because the vehicle towing the trailer is the only vehicle allowed in our camp site and it can be 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to lug gear to the campsite.
