There are currently three requirements for individuals
who wish to coach sports in the Township of River Vale.
1- Concussion Certification
2- Rutgers SAFETY Certification
3- Background Check/Fingerprinting
This is a Pascack Valley Board of Education requirement, can be done online and takes 20-30 mins to complete.
Click on the following link to take the course http://nfhslearn.com/courses/61037. You will be required to register on the site before you can take the course. Follow the prompts to get to the course itself. It is free but you have to register and go through the "billing" process. Upon completion, make sure you print two copies of your certificate confirming completion. Keep one certificate for your own records and then drop the other copy of the certificate in an envelope at Town Hall Attn: Richard O’Donnell. A copy of the certificate is required to enable us to record your completion.

Upon successful completion of the process, you will be issued a card (similar to a credit card) that you must have on your possession when on the field with the kids. Once complete, the background check lasts 3 years.

Rutgers SAFETY Certification
This is a NJ State requirement for all adults who want to coach children.
The Program is offered in many towns locally (River Vale offers it once a year in the Fall). The website link below will allow you to find the closest locations that offer the Rutgers Certification http://youthsports.rutgers.edu/program-areas/volunteer-coaches. Once complete, the Rutgers certification lasts a lifetime.
